POSITION CONTEXT

The COVID Immunisation Nurse is part of the Clinic Team of Mawarnkarra Health Service. The Service objective is to provide holistic, primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of the West Pilbara region.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The COVID Immunisation Nurse has key responsibilities in the provision of person centred clinical care, preventative health and health promotion.  The COVID Immunisation Nurse will provide evidence based clinical care, immunisations and COVID related health promotion advice to the local community and others who use the service.

DUTIES

  1. Clinical and other services
    • Provide and initiate health promotion with regards to reducing the spread of respiratory infections including COVID 19 and associated respiratory illnesses such as influenza and pneumonia. 
    • Provide primary health care clinical nursing assessments and services as required 
    • Work collaboratively with members of the clinical team to ensure the effective delivery of clinical care to patients.
    • Participate in case conferencing as necessary.
    • Recall patients who are overdue for vaccinations
    • Identify patients at risk of COVID 19 and other associated respiratory illnesses to offer immunisation
    • Collaborate closely with GPs on care of patients. 
    • Provide advice, education and referrals as necessary.
    • Manage patient immunisations including the recording on AIR.
    • Oversee the management of patient recalls and reminders for the clinic. Ensure all recalling of patients for treatments is up-to-date at all times.
    • Participate in care planning. 
    • Perform routine pathology tests, screening and other technical tasks such as ECGs, wound management and administration of medication
    • Promote Medicare billing in the service consistent with laws governing Medicare and in a manner that optimises Medicare billing arrangements
  1. Education and health promotion
    • Work in collaboration with other staff at Mawarnkarra and take a leadership role in implementing education and health promotion for patients and the community.
    • In collaboration with other staff including the Chronic Disease Coordinator, participate in chronic disease management of patients and provide education to patients and families on reducing the incidence of COVID infection and minimising the risk of infection severity 
  1. Vaccine storage management
    • Ensure that the integrity of all immunisations is maintained.
    • Understand cold chain management and maintain the cold chain.
    • Understand all NHMRC guidelines in respect to vaccine storage and management.
    • Understand and adhere to the policies developed in regards to vaccine storage and management.
  1. Infection control
    • Demonstrate leadership in maintaining infection control principles at all times.
    • Adhere to all policies and procedures in regards to infection control management.
    • Educate staff on the principles, and policies and procedures of infection control.
  1. Reporting and data management 
    • Ensure a clear understanding of Mawarnkarra reporting requirements as relevant to the position. 
    • Maintain and provide records and clinical statistics in preparation for the lodgement of  reports and other data collection requirements
  1. Quality improvement activities 
    • Participate in continual quality improvement in the delivery of client services.
    • Ensure all standards are maintained consistent with evidence based best practice standards as applicable to the role of COVID Immunisation Nurse.
  1. Compliance
    • Maintains compliance with all statutory and regulatory obligations including Nursing Registration, working with the nurse’s scope of practice, infection control and sterilisation requirements and safe handling/disposal of medical waste, records management and WHS and Accreditation requirements
    • Assists with the maintenance of cold chain systems and other medication storage systems as required by Regulatory bodies.
    • Networking with other services to improve health care delivery both internally and externally ensuring line leadership supportive of any actions prior to implementation.
    • Planning and management of care in conjunction with the clinical manager
  1. Professioal responsibilities
    • Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct.
    • Participate in and contribute to the fulfilment of operational needs of the organisation as they arise.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with all Mawarnkarra policies and procedures.
    • Participate in maintaining a safe working environment.
    • Other Duties as reasonably requested by management.

EDUCATION

Attend and participate in the professional development program and relevant external seminars and conferences, as approved.

This position is a fixed term locum contract role.

Remuneration Benefits include:

  • Base Salary $83,850-111,027 pa pro rata + Allowances
  • Superannuation 11%
  • You will have access to generous salary sacrificing (pre-tax dollars)
