SENIOR LECTURER / ASSOICATE PROFESSOR - CARIOLOGY

The Faculty of Dentistry has been undertaking research and educating dental practitioners for over a hundred years. The Faculty offers a rigorous research and training program and produces research scholars of international standing and highly skilled general practice and specialist clinicians.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Cariology to join the faculty. This appointment offers an outstanding opportunity to exercise academic leadership and to enhance the research and teaching endeavours of the faculty. The appointee will be responsible for integrating contemporary evidence-based caries management into the dental curricula.

In this role you will:

  • lead research in the area of cariology including  publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals
  • work with discipline heads and course directors to integrate the caries management clinical framework into the wider faculty curriculum framework and the various undergraduate course curricula
  • guide the ongoing enhancement of the discipline’s research and teaching endeavours and supervision as part of succession planning within the discipline
  • co-ordinate and provide clinical supervision of DClinDent, DMD and BOH courses
  • mentor clinical educators in the development of research skills and supervise research students
  • devise and implement programs for training of clinical supervisors and develop guidelines for clinical units to ensure effective patient care and consistency across disciplines while ensuring that discipline specific needs are met.

To succeed in securing this role you will have:

  • appropriate higher academic qualifications and dental and  specialist qualifications, recognised and registrable in Australia;  PhD in an appropriate area
  • experience of leadership and continuous improvement   academia with an excellent research record showing understanding of and experience in research and in particular research in clinical settings at a national or international level
  • experience in a university or educational setting and experience interacting with students and facilitating student learning including problem-based learning
  • knowledge and understanding of evidence-based dentistry and experience in clinical supervision and the treatment of a wide spectrum of patients
  • capacity to devise research projects and to contribute to professional and scholarly literature in dental clinical education
  • demonstrated experience in academic leadership and management of staff and capacity to mentor staff
  • strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in dealing with managers within the health sector.

For appointment at Associate Professor level you will also need to demonstrate strong leadership experience and ability and an international standing in dentistry within clinical practice, teaching and research.
