The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Portfolio currently includes six Research Services groups, which support the DVCR and researchers to achieve the University’s research goals, as well as a number of cross-disciplinary Institutes and Centres.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Senior Technical Officer within the Preclinical Imaging Core Facility to provide a full-service and self-service model of various preclinical imaging services, laboratory animal management, analysis support and participating in core facility projects as required.

The successful applicant will require:

  • demonstrated advanced expertise in operation and maintenance of one or more advanced preclinical imaging modalities (e.g. ultrasound, optical imaging, microCT, MRI) and associated instrumentation and techniques
  • relevant image analysis software including data management, data processing, graphic tools, statistical analysis programs and reporting on research findings (e.g. Living Image, 2D & 3D bone morphometry analysis, etc.)
  • demonstrated ability to identify problems and troubleshoot issues
  • demonstrated service experience, including experience in delivering services within a multi-user facility with a broad and diverse user base, including the servicing of clients in fee-for-service situations as well as awareness of issues related to dealing with commercially sensitive or confidential information
  • experience with developing research projects, experimental design and preparing ethics submissions and grant applications
  • demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision
  • tertiary qualifications and/or is certified to work in a laboratory together with some work experience, with a willingness to undertake further studies to better develop their skills in laboratory techniques/methods.
  • excellent interpersonal skills including ability to communicate with researchers at all level and non-academic colleagues, clients and stakeholders and a proven ability to maintain effective collaborative working relationships
  • experience in best practice research animal handling, surgical procedures and anesthesia, including compliance with animal ethics policies and other related policies, standards and legislation.
  • Sound working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory environment including experience in working with hazardous substances with well-rounded experience in implementing safety procedures relevant to the laboratory.

Desirable:

  • broad knowledge and experience of clinical imaging research modalities and techniques
  • broad knowledge and experience of large animal imaging for translational research
  • broad knowledge and experience of nuclear science/medicine technologies.
