The Rheumatology Research division within Sydney Medical School - Northern is part of the partnership between the University and the Royal North Shore Hospital. Our aim is to conduct practice- and policy-relevant epidemiological research, as well as basic research, to improve musculoskeletal health. The Rheumatology Department is devoted to advancing our understanding of the disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system, their diagnosis and treatments.

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Officer who is involved in the management of a primary care management of hip and knee osteoarthritis project. Main function includes clinical trial activities such as assisting with participant recruitment, following up patient appointments, providing study-specific training to recruited GPs, facilitating trial fidelity, managing outcome measurements at all time points, and local administration of the trial. Other tasks include scheduling appointments and participant retention strategies as well as supervising two research officers.

In addition, the Senior Project Officer will provide project management advice and operational support to project teams, coordinating the implementation and delivery of a broad range of activities and tasks in order to meet established milestones and deliverables. You will be responsible for providing project management support to multiple work streams within a multi-faceted program of work, including establishing project teams, developing and implementing project plans, managing project financials and preparing status reports in line with broader project governance requirements. You will also manage multiple work-stream stakeholders and communications, ensuring effective collaboration and team work with other project teams and stakeholders across the University.

You will require:
  • tertiary qualifications and/or relevant work experience, preferably in project management and administration in the health sector
  • experience in conducting clinical trials
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with a variety of matters
  • ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • accuracy, attention to detail and highly organised
  • planning, analysis and communication skills together with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
  • numeracy skills together with experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation/budget tracking, and managing invoice payments and purchases for a project
  • experience project managing multiple work streams, or working in large complex projects and ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
  • excellent administrative skills, coupled with a general understanding of the project life cycle, project documentation, project standards and methodologies
  • experience managing a diverse group of key internal/external stakeholders on large or complex projects.
