We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Allied Health academic researcher to a conjoint Level E or D professorial appointment between the Faculty of Health Sciences, the University of Sydney and Sydney Local Health District.

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Sydney is the largest and most comprehensive grouping of allied health professions, researchers and teachers within Australia. The faculty is a world leader in health sciences and allied health research and education and is acknowledged as a leading global hub of excellence in research and education in health sciences. The faculty is committed to research and research–led learning and teaching in a multidisciplinary context.

Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) has a well-established reputation for excellence in the provision of healthcare services and for managerial and fiscal responsibility. Established 1st January, 2011, the District continues to build on the positive reputation of its organisational predecessors, the Central Sydney Area Health Service and the Sydney South West Area Health Service. SLHD has strong and well recognised leadership roles in research, education and in the provision of high quality tertiary and quaternary clinical services. Health promotion and high quality provision of healthcare to its local community are also integral to the District’s role.

This conjoint professorial position is a component of a strategic partnership between the FHS and SLHD. The objective of the Sydney LHD and the University of Sydney Allied Health Partnership is to oversee and facilitate the implementation of the Sydney LHD and the University of Sydney FHS allied health partnership: including the development and implementation of an allied health research and education strategic plan.  The partnership is committed to enhancing the health of people in Sydney LHD through patient centred care that is grounded in scientific evidence, sharing knowledge and skills and preparing work ready allied health professionals.  The work of this Professorial appointment will be focussed on contributing to the evidence base about effective community based allied health services. The successful applicant will work closely with SLHD allied health staff to build research capability and lead and integrate research from the FHS into SLHD.

The Professor/Associate Professor Allied Health (Community) will be co-located at the University of Sydney and SLHD, Camperdown. The position will be responsible to the Dean (FHS), University of Sydney and to the Director Allied Health (SLHD). The successful applicant will work alongside a passionate team of clinicians and researchers in the various allied health disciplines and pursue a research program. The appointee will teach in their relevant field, as well as supervise postgraduate research students and contribute to the discipline’s academic programs. 

Term

The successful applicant will be offered a fixed term appointment for a minimum of five years as Professor/Associate Professor of Allied Health (Community). A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
