About the opportunity 

Provide research support to A/Prof Ainsley Newson and contribute to the project: “Ethical, legal and policy issues in genomic data sharing in Australia,” under the auspices of the Australian Genomics Health Alliance. This mixed methods project will involve the identification and critical analysis of legal, social and ethical aspects relating to genomic data sharing in Australia, to inform a robust scientific, legal and policy framework for genomic data sharing in this jurisdiction. The incumbent will be expected to coordinate the various activities associated with this research, including qualitative interviews and ethico-legal desktop research.

• tertiary qualification in law (preferred), or completion of ≥1 relevant law subjects in the context of another degree. May hold (or be working towards) postgraduate qualifications
• tertiary qualification in science/genetics (including genetic counselling), or completion of one or more subjects in this area in the context of another degree. May hold (or be working towards) a postgraduate qualification
• demonstrated excellence in analysis and writing skills, including experience in writing for academic publication
• experience in qualitative research (through study or employment)
• experience in carrying out legal literature searches, and preparing reviews for further analysis
• experience in contributing to research design, for example experience in ethics submissions.
• strong problem solving skills and the ability to independently use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods.
