About the opportunity 

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a fully externally funded research centre. It runs large multi-centre investigator-initiated clinical trials with national and international collaborators, and contributes expertise and infrastructure for trials run by others. It undertakes research aiming at improving both the conduct of trials and the resulting clinical evidence.

Reporting to the Business Director, as a Medical Writer you will work under broad guidance and exercise independent judgement in the design and performance of writing activities and tasks, mentoring academics and trials staff in writing high level grants and journal articles and other publications, drawing from your previous experience in this field to successfully deliver on key accountabilities.

About you

  • proven tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline (Minimum BSc in a life science subject such as Biomedical Science or Pharmacology. Advanced degree: MSc or PhD preferred) with relevant experience in related field. May possess specialist experience in the field of clinical trials and familiarity with publishing clinical trials research
  • 3 – 5 years medical writing experience including knowledge of medical terminology relevant to CTC’s research areas, evidence of journal publication experience with demonstrated expertise across various print, online and digital media formats
  • proven experience in developing and working on research publications, including expertise in contributing to writing research protocols and grant applications
  • demonstrated knowledge and ability to comply with international standards for professional medical writing, comply with research integrity and dissemination standards
  • demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and at times limited supervision
  • working understanding and current knowledge of relevant aspects of the Work Health and Safety Policy and relevant legislation (including Safe Laboratory Practices for roles based in Laboratory)
  • knowledge of the Higher Education Research Data Collection and ethics reporting requirements.

About us

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC)  participates in translational research from bench to bedside, conducts methodological research in relation to clinical trials, reviews and synthesises evidence from completed trials and is at the forefront of developments in methods, such as prospective meta-analysis, supervises postgraduate students in all of these areas, offers postgraduate degrees in clinical trials research, runs short courses to train people for Australian medical research, and undertakes health technology and diagnostic test assessments, economic analyses, bio-statistical design and analysis, and automated central randomization services.
