About the opportunity 

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for managing research activities in the perioperative dental care area. This will include managing all aspects of the research exploring the benefit of dental health on surgical patients’ outcomes. The main activities will include but are not limited to managing research ethics, subject recruitment at the Westmead precinct and other sites, their dental assessment and management and assessment of surgical and hospital outcomes. 

The role will work with clinical and research academics, professional staff and students in the faculty of dentistry nd other health discsiplines, and key stakeholders across the Westmead precinct and at other sites. The role will provide important input into the broad research direction in perioperative research based on progress of the current research activities.

The role will have a higher degree by research and demonstrable research impact, good interpersonal skills, experience in perioperative dental care research and clinical activities

This project is for an initial period of two years with the opportunity for extension contingent on research progress. 

Reporting to the Head of Oral Medicine, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will:

  • contribute to the design of research program/project in the work area and conduct research work as part of the broader research agenda for the work area
  • coordinate research activities in perioperative dental care amongst university staff and with stakeholders including NSW Health
  • perform data analysis and literature searches, aids in preparing preliminary reports for the work area
  • conduct research on perioperative dental care including its impact on subjects’ surgical outcomes and broader quality of life
  • conduct research in other active projects exploring the relationship between dental and systemic health
  • ensure that ethics guidelines, standards and WHS requirements are met for the work area
  • provide research administrative support for the work area
  • coordinate the development and submission of research publications for the work area
  • undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities

About you

  • a PhD in dentistry or other relevant field
  • a Dentistry qualification and experience with clinical research in perioperative dental care
  • proven ability to lead projects individually and as part of a team, and deliver major research outcomes
  • evidence of independent contributions to scientific outcomes
  • extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, ethics submissions and grant applications
  • a strong academic track record

Knowledge of the Higher Education Research Data Collection and ethics reporting requirements and a proficiency in statistical analyses is highly desirable.
