About the opportunity 

The Research Administration Officer is funded by a 36 months NHMRC Grant.

Vietnam is a hotspot for the emergence of drug resistant disease epitomising the regional challenges facing health systems in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have funded a grant tilted "Combating the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistant infectious diseases in Vietnam: The V-RESIST study" for 36 months, which will be administered through NHMRC. The overall aim of this project is to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a complex health systems intervention to reduce the emergence of AMR in Vietnam.

The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research Vietnam along with the University of Sydney will be partnering with numerous Australian Institutions and Vietnamese institutions such as National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the National Lung Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam.  

The Research Administration Officer will coordinate the 3-year program and provide specific research support including preparing documents, responding to complex queries, exploring matters, and sourcing solutions etc. for the work area. The incumbent may be required to provide support to research investigators, utilising their extensive administrative experience and judgement, helping to analyse matters and provide advice on policy and procedures for the delivery of work outcomes.

There might be an opportunity to travel to Vietnam once or twice a year.

• tertiary qualifications in business administration and relevant experience in business administration in a medical research setting
• experience working in a research-intensive e environment and has well-developed negotiation, relationship building and influencing skills
• excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in handling a wide range of enquiries and providing excellent customer service
• ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work.

The successful candidate will have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods and will also have financial management experience and literacy, controlling income and expenditure.

The Central (Central Clinical School (CCS) is located on the main campus of the University. It contains two main areas: a large clinical school based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital; and a large research school.
