About the opportunity 

We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for a Research Fellow – Biostatistician/ Epidemiology to join the Faculty of Medical Science Discipline of Pharmacology team.

This position will contribute to research conducted as part of a program, which aims to address research gaps in key human toxicology issues and ensure rapid translation of these results into practice and regulation. The incumbent will be working with internationally renowned experts, within one of the few substantive clinical toxicology research collaborations in the world. We work with several national and international networks of collaborators on various projects. The position will provide advice and support to researchers, collaborators and research students concerning the design and appropriate epidemiological and statistical methodologies, with a focus on pharmaco-epidemiology of linked data sets, pharmacometric modelling, epidemiology and/or clinical trials. Responsibilities will include planning and carrying out statistical analyses, using statistical software to manage and analyse data and contributing to drafting and dissemination of research results, supervising students and junior research staff. The incumbent will also have an opportunity to develop their own research interests in this field.

About you

• PhD or a postgraduate degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics and or other quantitative research techniques or equivalent experience
• history of research evidenced by peer reviewed publications
• experience in fitting and/or interpreting complex statistical models
• excellent data organization and analysis skills
• excellent oral and written skills including the ability to communicate statistical results to non-statisticians
• strong computing skills in several statistical or modelling software packages eg. SAS, Stata, SPSS, R, Matlab, Excel, ARC-GIS, Nonmem.

Experience as a statistician or epidemiologist in pharmacometric, pharmacoepidemiology or health research would be highly regarded.
