  • Full time, 2.5 years fixed term with potential for future extension. Base salary $94K for Level A or $106K for Level B dependent on experience plus superannuation

 

About the opportunity 

We are recruiting for a dynamic Postdoctoral Research Associate / Fellow to undertake translational research with the Chair of Bowel Cancer Research exploring how the immune infiltrate influences development and progression of bowel cancer. You will use advanced molecular techniques to investigate the immune infiltrate from archival specimens and freshly obtained polyps and cancers. The role includes establishing approaches and conducting fundamental aspects of research work, and facilitating the efficient operation of this research program.

The incumbent will be expected to have sufficient knowledge to lead the activities associated with immuno-oncology and molecular biology research projects and ensure that experiments are appropriately designed and carried out, including data analysis. They must be able to provide new ideas, work independently in the laboratory and to collaborate with researchers from different biomedical backgrounds. The role may include lab supervision of research students as appropriate for experience.

  • PhD in Molecular Cell Biology/Immunology or related discipline
  • research experience in immunology and / or molecular cell biology demonstrated by publication record
  • proficiency to use bioinformatics and statistical tools for data analysis
  • expert knowledge of the contributions of molecular systems (e.g. microbiome, immune, genetic, etc) in the pathogenesis of cancer
  • a passion to improve the lives of cancer patients through research and outreach
  • experience researching and preparing quality drafts with supporting data for research publications, grant applications and ethics applications and presentations
  • strong understanding of relevant aspects of the Work Health and Safety procedures and relevant legislation, including Safe Laboratory Practices, biological safety, and chemical safety, as applicable to the work environment.

The successful candidate will be able to work well independently and as part of the team, and have confident prioritisation skills to meet any deadlines and project needs.

The School is headquartered at the Royal North Shore Hospital, which has provided teaching to undergraduate medical students for over 50 years. The Kolling Institute of Medical Research is the oldest research institute in the state of New South Wales.
