• The Matilda Centre is looking for a dynamic Research Officer/Biostatistician to provide technical knowledge and support our research program in mental health promotion
• Located at the Matilda Centre, Darlington Campus
• 6 month Fixed Term, part-time 0.4FTE (2 days per week) opportunity with possible extension for 12months depending upon funding
• Base salary $86K p.a. pro rata plus generous contribution to superannuation

About the opportunity 

We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for an enthusiastic Research Officer with a keen interest in Biostatistics to join the progressive team at the Matilda Centre based at Darlington Campus.

The Research Officer/Biostatistician will provide technical knowledge and research support to Senior Research Fellow Dr Lexine Stapinski  in line with the priorities of the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use. The role will primarily involve contributing to the research activities (data management, analysis and manuscript preparation) of the Inroads trial of early intervention to address anxiety and harmful alcohol use among young people.

You will work under broad direction and exercise independent judgement in the design, performance and project management of allocated research activities and tasks. Some of your key accountabilities will include:

• Conduct data analysis and prepare preliminary reports.
• Provide day-to-day research support as part of the broader research agenda for the work area.
• Manage the development of research publications.
• Ensures that ethics guidelines, standards and WHS requirements are met.
• Undertakes ad-hoc research support activities.

About you

• Tertiary qualifications or Postgraduate degree (or near completion) in biostatistics, medical statistics, applied statistics, psychology or public health with experience in research methods, clinical epidemiology and quantitative statistics or demonstrated equivalent professional experience. 
• previous statistical modelling skills with proficiency implementing a range of procedures including mixed models, mediation analysis, clinical trial analysis
• proficient skills across a range of statistical packages including STATA, Mplus and SPSS
• demonstrated experience in collection, analysis and reporting of research data
• experience developing and working on research projects. Previous experience conducting mental health/alcohol research and/or evaluating mental health interventions would be highly regarded.

The ideal candidate will have a general understanding of mental health and substance use research, prevention and/or treatment or the ability to rapidly learn a new field to a high degree of understanding. They will have exceptional communication skills along with the ability to work autonomously with competing priorities under limited supervision.
