About the opportunity 

Reporting to Professor Allison Abendroth, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will provide technical knowledge and expertise in support, in order to expand the research program on human herpesviruses.

The focus of this role is performing laboratory-based research; predominantly working with Varicella zoster virus (VZV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), mammalian cell culture and molecular biology, as well as immunological based techniques to further our understanding of how VZV, HSV and HCMV interact with key human target cells.

• mammalian cell culture and human virus production in mammalian cells
• techniques such as flow cytometry, immunofluorescent microscopy, molecular and cell biology techniques and immunology-based assays
• developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, ethics submissions and grant applications

Our ideal candidate will have experience with human viruses and immunology, the ability to work independently to deliver quality results, to a defined schedule, and have experience in training or supervision of research students and staff.
