About the opportunity 

This is an education and research position for an early career, enthusiastic academic with a vision to establish an academic career pathway. Working closely with the Program Director of Indigenous Health Promotion and other members of the academic team, the position will have a role in teaching and academic administration of the Indigenous health promotion units of study in the social and emotional wellbeing cohort of the Graduate Diploma in Indigenous Health Promotion (GDIHP), covering priority topics of program planning, implementation and evaluation, and embedding a range of social and emotional wellbeing issues covered by the curriculum. You will also have opportunity to build research, evaluation and community outreach work related to the GDIHP, Indigenous social and emotional wellbeing or other areas within the Sydney School of Public Health (SSPH), with career mentoring and exciting professional development opportunities.

This position has been designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). 

We are recruiting two full time roles, with possible job sharing for applicants who are looking for two or three days a week.

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for an Associate Lecturer in Indigenous Health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing who possess:

• relevant tertiary qualifications in public health or in a related program focusing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and social and emotional wellbeing and/or culture
• willingness to enrol in a Master of Philosophy or PhD in Indigenous health and social and emotional wellbeing, Public Health within the five year appointment term
• a broad understanding of Indigenous health, social and emotional wellbeing and health promotion in the Australian and global context
• a desire to develop teaching skills in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and Public Health
• a demonstrated ability to provide specific support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
• willingness to travel occasionally to deliver teaching in regional or rural locations
• willingness to contribute to collaborative, community-driven research projects related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and social and emotional wellbeing.

The successful candidate will be a new start academic with excellent relationship building skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

The University of Sydney encourages part-time and flexible working arrangements, which will be considered for this role. Applications will be considered from candidates who are not located in proximity of Sydney, however the incumbent will be required travel to Sydney to deliver teaching and attend meetings.
