New position available now – Fire Safety Officer for our expanding hospital campus

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is preparing to open a brand new hospital building at Prince of Wales Hospital at Randwick. We are looking a new Fire Safety Officer to join our hospital campus.

What you'll be doing

The Fire Safety Officer plays an important role in keeping our hospital campus safe and secure. The Fire Safety Officer is involved in fire safety education and training, providing advice on fire safety and systems, and ensuring compliance with fire safety policies, processes and legislation.

The position will work in partnership with the existing Fire Safety Officer for the campus, as part of the Facilities Management team.

The position is available from October 2022. The position is full-time, but part-time or job-share will be considered.

Prince of Wales Hospital is in Randwick, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The hospital is close to both light rail and bus stops.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.

Selection criteria

Below is information about the candidates we are looking for. We welcome applications from all candidates who think they will be a good fit for this position.

  1. Completed a Fire Safety Officer (Health) Accreditation Course, with Fire and Rescue NSW or equivalent in accordance with NSW Health Department Circular No 2010/24; completed Module of Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training (TAE40110 or equivalent).
  2. Demonstrated experience in assessment, implementation and evaluation of fires safety requirements.
  3. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Fire Safety, Engineering & Risk or relevant equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience
  4. Knowledge of statutory requirements for Fire Safety in Health Buildings, Australian Standards and the Building Code of Australia as they pertain to fire safety.
  5. Demonstrated experience in the delivery of fire safety and evacuation training.
  6. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, in addition to report writing skills, with evidence of computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, Share Point.
  7. Current NSW motor vehicle drivers licence.
