What you'll be doing

The overall purpose of the Community Engagement position is to support engagement in treatment, reduce the impact of problematic drug and alcohol use, prevent relapse, address lifestyle issues to encourage adherence to drug and alcohol treatment goals and improve the psychosocial status of the person.

As part of a multi-disciplinary drug and alcohol team, the successful applicant will provide assertive follow up to community based referrals, and work to identify and address barriers to accessing treatment.

  • Tertiary qualifications and where applicable, a member of relevant associations or registered with the relevant board, in the following disciplines Social Work, Counseling, Occupational Therapist, Psychology, Nursing. Professions which fall under the Health Professionals State Award (Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Counseling) who apply must provide evidence of 3 years clinical experience in their profession and under minimal direct professional supervision .
  • Demonstrated experience in providing drug and alcohol interventions. (including but not limited to screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management, contributing to treatment and discharge planning, referral, group work and community follow up).
  • Comprehesive understanding and demonstrated social intervention experience in the social and emotional needs of the patient/clients D&A issues, such as housing, centrelink, finance etc.
  • Demonstrated application of professional and ethical boundaries when working with complex situations as part of a mulitdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated experience in liaison and working in partnership with government and non-government services, and community groups.
  • Demonstrated leadership within a diverse range of community settings with the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team or autonomously.
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills, advanced written, oral communication and competent computer skills
  • Valid unrestricted Driving License for use in NSW/Australia and the ability to travel.
