Ballarat Health Services (BHS) is the main public referral health service to a catchment population of around 250,000 people across the Grampians region and has been providing quality care for more than 160 years. BHS delivers care across all settings: in hospital and increasingly, in the community and people’s homes and is the largest public provider of residential aged care in Australia. BHS is the largest employer in Ballarat, which has a population of over 100,000 people. Our workforce of approximately 4,500 is a key strength of our organisation and the broader community.

Ballarat Health Services (BHS) is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Director Health, Safety and Wellbeing for a 24 month fixed term contract arrangement. In addition to managing the day to day operations of the Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HS&W) Department, the Director is responsible for the organisations health and safety management system.  The department is responsible for general occupational health and safety, injury management and WorkCover, core training programs for safe patient handling & mobility, management of clinical aggression and workplace conduct training.

There is a strong staff health and wellbeing focus at the Health Service, and this role plays a pivotal part of the key stakeholder group responsible for the development of health and wellbeing strategy.  BHS offers a range of clinical and non-clinical services that present many and varying risks. This is an exciting opportunity for the right incumbent to work in a very diverse and complex industry pertaining to health, safety and wellbeing needs.

Key Selection Criteria:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in an Occupational Health and Safety related discipline and/or demonstrate significant experience in a Senior OH&S role. 
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a Senior Occupational Health and Safety Position of a large, or multi-faceted organisation. 
  • Experience measuring and reporting on safety programs, rehabilitation and wellbeing using both lead and lag indicators.
  • Demonstrated expertise is relevant legislation and compliance.
