What you'll be doing

The General Manager Oral Health provides advice to the Executive Director Operations on the strategic direction for Oral Health services for the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD), to provide clinical direction, coordination of clinical services, appointment of senior staff and planning for clinical services. The position is responsible for providing the clinical and appropriate corporate governance to Oral Health services of WSLHD, meeting the targets and performance indicators for Oral Health Services set by the Ministry of Health and WSLHD, strategic operations and workforce. More specifically:
  •  Leading and directing clinical service delivery with the Clinical Director and determining operational priorities across the Oral Health service, and setting service delivery goals, standards and performance measures to ensure expectations are clear and that service delivery strategies are aligned with WSLHD objectives.
  • Effectively and efficiently managing financial, human and physical resources to facilitate service delivery excellence and optimise outcomes for the community, patients and their carers 
  • Contributing to strategic and business planning processes within the LHD to ensure that plans are informed by high quality strategic advice and a focus on community healthcare needs
  • Developing and implementing strategies to enable the continuous review of operations to improve the quality of services to the community 
  • Meeting NSW Health key performance indicators with regard to elective and emergency access facilitating, developing and delivering an organizational culture and broader human resources strategy which demonstrates commitment to involving, supporting and working closely with staff throughout the processes of change and skills development to enable the ongoing development of the Oral Health service
  • Supporting the Oral Health service to achieve the aims of safety management systems and to establish and maintain a positive health and safety culture for patients, carers, staff and the community 
  • Providing consultation, performance feedback and collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance service quality, accessibility and responsiveness to meet the community and LHD needs. 
  • Ensure that appropriate Business Continuity Plans aligning with WSLHD BCPs are in place, remain current/regularly reviewed.

Selection Criteria:
  1. Extensive proven experience at a senior management level and/or experience in senior dentistry management in a substantial and complex organisation engaged in service delivery.
  2. Ability to apply superior planning skills to co-ordinating and implementing long term strategic and business plans and major projects, including capital work redevelopment.
  3. Demonstrated high level proficiency in financial management and governance to provide direction to achieve financial goals for WSLHD Oral Health Service.
  4. Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and analyse potential problems at an organisational level and implement solutions through delegation.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse range of staff across clinical and corporate functions to deliver high quality integrated health services.
  6. Demonstrated application of knowledge and expertise in health service delivery across a diverse range of care sectors, in advocacy for positive change in a broad range of community and government forums.
  7. Demonstrated flexibility in communication style, utilising tact and diplomacy when negotiating sensitive or difficult issues.
  8. Proven track record of creating long lasting relationships, built on trust, with internal and external stakeholders and clients.
