THE DEPARTMENT

Alfred Health has been provided with funding over 6 years by the Federal Government to establish The TrialHub, to improve access and participation in clinical trials across geographical regions in Victoria, so people with cancer, and in particular those with rare cancers have access to clinical trials no matter where they live. TrialHub provides a unique, holistic and practical clinical trial partnership outreach program to expand access to, and participation, in clinical trials, particularly for indigenous and other disadvantaged Australians in outer metropolitan, regional, rural and remote areas. The program was a start-up program when it was awarded the contract for $24.6 million in funding from the Australian Government Department of Health (the Department) in December 2019, to be completed on the 30th September 2025.

THE ROLE

TrialHub formed The Rare Cancer Clinical Trial Alliance in 2023 to provide collaborative strategic direction and leadership to enhance access and participation to clinical trials in Rare Cancers (RC) across Victoria, particularly for those living in regional, rural and remote areas. The TrialHub project Manager will play an integral role in supporting the Alliance to:

  • Develop feasibility optimisation processes that consider RC trial impact and value;
  • Establish mechanisms to collate and present feasibilities from different sources for consideration to a representative group including public, private and regional health services;
  • Consider options to improve the accuracy and currency of lists of RC trials to be accessed within the Alliance, across Victoria.
  • Develop a consensus-based process for the innovative allocation and distribution of RC trials to sites/networks within Victoria; and
  • Explore novel financial modelling to optimise the RC trial portfolio within clinical trial units
  • Work collaboratively to raise awareness and interest in these RC trials across regional, rural and remote Victoria.
  • Identify and link entities actively referring patients to RC trials) Identify and advertise an efficient identification and referral path for a RC patient to relevant clinical trials

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification or postgraduate qualification in relevant discipline such as health, social science, management or related field.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment that governs Clinical Trial research in Victoria and Australia, including ICH GCP, TGA, and state regulations
  • Previous experience in project management
  • High level organizational skills with demonstrated capacity to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to follow direction, work autonomously and collaboration with staff and external stakeholders

Desirable

  • Cancer research experience
  • Demonstrated excellent team working skills with ability to work using own initiative
