Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse - Clinical Nurse Consultant

 

An exciting and new opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse with a strong interest in and commitment to Prostate Cancer to join the very experienced and dedicated Multidisciplinary and Care Coordination team  within NSLHD. The incumbent will work in partnership with Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia. The role of the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse (Clinical Nurse Consultant) will be to promote best practice, actively contributing to quality health care by collaborating with health care providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards and evaluating their outcomes within the spectrum of prostate cancer, coordinate relevant support in the Community and Supportive and Palliative Care services. The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse (CNC) will work in close liaison with the Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Supportive Palliative Care specialists ensuring the continuity of care and support for patients with prostate cancer and their carers.

What you'll be doing

The role of the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse (Clinical Nurse Consultant) is to promote best practice which fosters clinical excellence, research and professional leadership. The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse contributes to quality health care by collaborating with health care providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards and evaluating their outcomes within the spectrum of prostate cancer. The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse is a key member of the multidisciplinary team, providing educational support, planning and evaluating nursing care and providing clinical supervision and nursing leadership as required. The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse will assess the individual needs of the patient and their carers, co-ordinate relevant support services in the Community and Supportive and Palliative Care services. The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse will work in collaboration with the Urology Clinical Nurse Coordinators and Clinical Nurse Consultant. The role of the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse will require close liaison with the Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Supportive and Palliative Care specialists ensuring the continuity of care and services to patients with prostate cancer.

  2. A Registered Nurse with at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty. In addition the applicant must have an approved post graduate qualification relevant to the specialty and evidence of substantial progress towards or completion of Masters (Urology or Cancer Nursing).
  3. Demonstrated clinical expertise and proven ability to provide clinical leadership in the provision and development of clinical practice utilising and translating evidence based research.
  4. Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
  5. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  6. Demonstrated participation in processes for the strategic and operational planning for the clinical service/specialty and shown to evaluate the outcomes of strategic changes on the clinical specialty service.
  7. Demonstrated computer skills with experience using MS Office programs and electronic filing systems.
  8. Demonstrated understanding of the physical, and psychological needs of patients with prostate cancer.
