What you'll be doing The Research Ethics Manager (REM) is an important position within the Research Office and will work closely with the Research Governance & Compliance manager (RGCM) in promoting the highest possible ethical standards in the conduct of research across the NSLHD.

This position is responsible for managing the ethical review and approval of all research (animal and human) activities across the NSLHD and as a Lead NSW Health Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) to ensure compliance with the relevant Hospital & NSLHD policies and procedures, NSW Health Directives and other relevant State and Federal guidelines, regulations and legislations.
All staff within the Research Office are expected to work flexibly to achieve urgent priorities as required, under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer and the Director of the Kolling Institute.
 
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. A graduate or higher degree qualification with a background in research methodology and/or medical ethics or equivalent experience in a relevant field or a combination; also a demonstrated experience in using office computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Experience with Data Management activities would be preferred.
  3. Proven ability to work at a senior level with senior researchers, academic leaders, administrators, and representatives of other government,non-government agencies, hospitals and universities.
  4. Demonstrated experience in research policy development and implementation, preferably gained in a research ethics or similar environment.
  5. Demonstrated high level of conflict resolution, negotiation and effective communication skills with proven experience in preparation of briefing papers, reports and correspondence.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision to achieve results either independently or as part of a team including resource management, problem solving, organisation analytical and time management skills.
  7. Demonstrated experience in the health and medical research administration environment including managing research relating activities such as ethical reviews and the administration of committees.
