cohealth's Oral Health Program provides a range of preventive, restorative and health promoting activities to enhance the Oral Health of the community in Kensington, Niddrie or Footscray. The Program delivers oral health care across the age continuum. Aligned with the philosophy of the organisation, the Program has a specific focus on the provision of oral health care to those marginalised and high needs groups within the community.

This position ensures the provision of high quality, efficient, effective and safe dental services to clients by undertaking dental assisting duties consistent with best practice and infection control standards, client-focused care, professionalism and an emphasis on teamwork in the dental surgery and within the entire dental team.

Within this role your responsibilities will include;

  • Providing quality clinical chair side assisting the dental operators, providing a client focused dental care;
  • Ensuring the appropriate storage and collection of infectious wastes;
  • Maintenance of dental equipment, consumables and supplies in the dental clinics; and relevant administrative duties
  • Assisting with the induction and mentoring of new staff, trainees, agency staff and students; and
  • Assisting in the provision of health promotion and screening to clients and parents in the community setting.

To be considered for this position you will have;

  • Certificate III in Dental Assisting or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated ability to work as member of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • High level of clinical competence, including chair side assisting and infection control, consistent with best practice;
  • A strong interest in primary health care and a commitment to improving the health of the disadvantaged;
  • A current Victorian driver's licence; and
  • Ability to speak a relevant second language and understand cross-cultural issues and Previous experience in the public dental system (desirable).

This position will be paid under the Victorian Stand Alone Community Health Services (Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Officers) Multiple Enterprise Agreement 2011 - 2015. Dental Assistant 2.6
