About the role

This position sits within the AOD Cluster which aims to improve the health, wellbeing, housing, and social outcomes of people who use alcohol and other drugs and/or those experiencing homelessness in Inner North West of Melbourne, through a human rights approach to health care which reduces harm, is trauma-informed, consumer directed, holistic, recovery and strengths-based.

This fast-paced position provides access to relevant psycho-social and mental health supports through the delivery of recovery-oriented, evidence-based, and therapeutic counselling interventions.

The AOD Counselling and Recovery Clinician & Family Drug Support Worker will also provide support for the family members and significant others of those who use drugs and/or alcohol. Support is delivered in person or over the phone to either individuals or to groups.

Your daily duties will vary but will include:

  • Complete Comprehensive AOD Assessments with clients using the DFFH Comprehensive AOD Assessment Tool completed in appropriate timeframes to meet targets.
  • Provide recovery-oriented, evidence-based, and therapeutic brief intervention and counselling services to individuals
  • Provision of individual therapeutic support and family integrated therapy
  • Provision of a client-centred and responsive service that caters for population and cultural diversity, with targeted support provided to marginalised communities, including young people, CALD, and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities

About you:

  • Degree level tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Social Work or similar, and have eligibility to join the relevant professional body. Other appropriate tertiary qualifications may also be considered
  • Sound knowledge of the health and social issues for people who use alcohol and drugs such as blood-borne virus prevention, pharmacotherapy treatment, stigma, and discrimination
  • The ability to assess client need and develop a care plan to support and assist their navigation of health and other community services within cohealth and externally
  • Maintains hope and role models a positive outlook even during challenging times
  • The ability to establish respectful professional relationships that have clear boundaries with consumers, staff, and partner organisations
