The position:

CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowships help facilitate the recruitment and development of our potential leaders.  They provide valuable opportunities for scientists and engineers to launch their careers, extend professional networks and enhance their career prospects.

Precision Health Technologies (PHT) are now under development, some within a larger CSIRO ‘Future Science Platform’ entitled ‘Precision Health’, offering consumers (citizens) the potential to take greater control of their health so as to sustain healthier lives into old age.  PHT include personalised diets, activity schedules, and usage of wearable diagnostic and monitoring devices that may shift the locus of health control from external to individual responsibility with an emphasis on prevention.  The focus of this consumer/citizen engagement activity will be on technologies with a preventative focus hence Precision Preventative Health Technologies (PPHT).

As a Postdoctoral Fellow with CSIRO Health and Biosecurity, you will evaluate behavioural science theories in relation to PPHTs in order to understand affective and cognitive drivers of PHT adoption.  You will build a multi-stage decision tree to understand needs, how and which consumer segments will adopt a range of PPHT, and translate this into a consumer support tool for pilot testing.  A range of PPHT concepts, including those currently under development by CSIRO colleagues, will be explored.  You will also have the opportunity to translate the decision tree into a ‘direct-to-consumer’ decision support tool to help mitigate risk and assist in the building of a personalised “suite” of PHTs.

The outcome of your research will have both academic and practical applications. You will closely interact with both researchers and engineers within the larger CSIRO Future Science Platform: Precision Health.  Potential commercial usage will be explored through stakeholder engagement including health care insurance and providers.

As a minimum requirement, you will hold a doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant area, such as Social Psychology or Health Psychology or similar discipline. You will also have:

• A good knowledge of multivariate statistics.

• High level communication and presentation skills and a history of professional behaviours.

• A record of publication in top peer reviewed journals and conference abstracts.

• Knowledge and skills in more than one of the following areas:

- Design and analysis of consumer surveys

- Choice modelling

- Design tree construction.

• The ability to work effectively as part of a research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.

• A record of science innovation and creativity.

To be eligible for this postdoctoral fellowship, you must have less than 3 years of relevant research experience since gaining your PhD.
