The Position

CSIRO’s National Collections & Marine Infrastructure is seeking to appoint a CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellow in Environmental Genomics.

As the successful candidate for this position, you will be involved in sequencing, assembly and identification of the microbe genomes of individual flies. You will also contribute to the development of further research on the fly microbiomes and disease transmission.  This will include exploring the use of flies as autonomous drones for environmental sampling.

Your duties/responsibilities will include:

  • Under the direction of senior research scientists, carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Undertake regular reviews of relevant literature.
  • Produce high quality scientific papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents.

Location:      Black Mountain ACT
Salary:          AU$80K - AU$91K plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure:         3 year specified term

To be successful you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as microbial genomics.
  • Demonstrated experience with metagenomic data analysis and assembly of metazoan genomes.
  • Demonstrated molecular biology wet lab experience.

Owing to the terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant full time postdoctoral experience.
