Clinical Terminology Specialist

The position:

As a Clinical Terminology Specialist with CSIRO Health and Biosecurity, you will join the Health Informatics Group in the Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC). The AEHRC is a world-recognised leader in the development of content and tools for the adoption of SNOMED CT as the clinical terminology for standardising health data in electronic health records.

Working closely with the AEHRC team, along with other collaborators and stakeholders, you will create controlled medical and clinical terminology. You will provide high-level support in research and development projects, and undertake evaluations that will help determine the future of clinical terminology deployments and ‘use cases’, as well as generating and contributing ideas for further research.

Specifically you will:

  • Lead the delivery on clinical terminology projects.
  • Apply your understanding of clinical practice and language, to terminology development and modelling requirements.
  • Develop terminology value sets and accurately model clinical terms and concepts.
  • Assist stakeholders and customers in the integration of terminology and clinical information structures
  • Undertake mapping activities and documentation for specific projects.
  • Support and interact closely with collaborators and other stakeholders, including participation in industry committees when required.

Location:      Herston (Brisbane) Queensland
Salary:          AU $109k to AU $128k per annum, plus up to 15.4% superannuation

As a minimum requirement, you will have knowledge and skills gained through tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as Health Informatics, Computer Science, Nursing, Pharmacy and Laboratory Science. You will also have:

  • High-level communication and collaborative skills plus a history of professional behaviours.
  • Extensive experience working in the area of clinical terminology, with significant and wide-ranging links to the clinical terminology community.
  • A deep understanding of the science underpinning data interoperability in healthcare.
  • The ability to deliver against contract obligations and client expectations.
  • Evidence of contribution to the field of Medical Informatics.
  • Proficiency in information management technology, and project design and management.
  • Extensive experience and understanding of prominent clinical vocabularies.
