CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

In this role the Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate with CSIRO researchers and experimental staff to focus and develop new innovative methods for improving cell-based immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer. They will be part of a multi-disciplinary project that is at the interface of stem cell research, regenerative medicine and immunology, and will have the opportunity to develop expertise in gene engineering technologies, applied immunology and animal xenograft/transplantation models.

Your duties will include:

  • Performing experimental work such as primary human and murine cell isolation, tissue culture, flow cytometry (analysis and cell sorting), cell/gene editing methodologies (DNA construct design, cell transfection/transduction, CRISPR/cas9 etc), western blotting, ELISAs, RT-PCR, animal work (mice).
  • Designing, managing and executing innovative, impactful research that will lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Analysing & interpreting data and troubleshooting protocols, experiments and analytics.
  • Participating in process reviews, and drafting safety documents such as activity risk assessments and safe work instructions.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to complete tasks in support of CSIRO’s scientific objectives.

To be considered you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Cell Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology or Biochemistry. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (or part-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Knowledge and research experience in immunology and/or cell immunotherapies.
  • Proven experience in multi-parameter flow cytometry (>5 fluorophores), and in cell/gene engineering techniques.
  • Demonstrated understanding in primary cell isolation/purification (human and/or mouse), analysis and functional assessment (in vitro and/or in vivo).
  • Demonstrated competence in data/statistical analysis (e.g. FlowJo software, GraphPad Prism) and data presentation (e.g. MS Office applications, Adobe Illustrator).

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian/New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian temporary resident currently residing in Australia; and be able to commence in the role by December 2021/January 2022.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and provide a National Police Check or equivalent.
