As a Veterinary Pathologist with CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), you will provide essential pathology support to facility user groups, including the provision of technical advice and training to staff and students.  You will contribute your pathology expertise to lead and contribute to projects in the area of zoonotic and emergency animal diseases to help mitigate their impact on Australian society, the economy and environment. You will compile reports for peer-reviewed publications, and present scientific ideas, concepts and project data to a range of stakeholders. 

The role will involve attendance on various committees, including National Advisory Committees, and may require international travel to advise our regional partners on animal health matters.

The appointee must be able to meet ACDP microbiological security and security assessment requirements.

In this role you will:

  • Provide histological, ultrastructural, gross and clinical pathology expertise to ACDP’s diagnostic program and research projects.
  • Support ACDP’s program to aid the detection and control of transboundary animal diseases and other zoonotic and emergency diseases.
  • Identify, approach and communicate with key stakeholders to increase ACDP’s profile and influence. 
  • Lead projects, including the negotiation of resource requirements.
  • Compile reports for peer-reviewed publications, and present scientific ideas, concepts and project data to scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Represent the ACDP pathology team at internal meetings.
  • Play a key advisory role in decisions concerning scientific and/or technological direction.
  • Maintain an awareness of relevant trends and target opportunities for uptake of research or technology.

Location:     Geelong – Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), Victoria
Salary:          AU$117k - AU$138k pa (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A veterinary degree registrable with Veterinary Boards in Australia. 
  • Substantial post-graduate experience (minimum of approximately 10 years), in veterinary anatomic pathology.
  • The ability to lead projects including the negotiation of resource requirements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to compile reports for peer-reviewed publications, and present to a range of audiences.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders and customers.
