The Opportunity

Are you a talented early-career postdoctoral researcher eager to lead economic modelling projects in adolescent health? Then this could be the role for you!

An exciting opportunity exists for an Economic Modeller in Health to join Burnet’s Modelling & Biostatistics team. This position will be aligned with the Centre for Research Excellence (CRE) for Driving Global Investment in Adolescent Health and will offer unique opportunities within both the Burnet Institute and the multi-institute partners of the CRE (Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Victoria University, University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, University of South Australia, University of Adelaide and the University of Queensland).

You will also have opportunities to undertake epidemiological and economic modelling projects across a range of health and disease areas, including COVID-19, HIV, TB, malaria, viral hepatitis, maternal and child health and nutrition.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the development and application of economic models in the area of adolescent health, using appropriate epidemiological, statistical, mathematical, and economic techniques
  • Communicate with CRE’s Chief Investigators and Associate Investigators, as well as other epidemiologists, public health and global health experts
  • Coordinate and manage research projects with a high degree of autonomy
  • Write scientific papers, technical reports, presentations and grant applications
  • Providing supervision and coaching to junior staff

This is a full-time position, initially for a 1-year period with the possibility of extension. Ongoing working from home options and flexible working hours will also be provided!

 

Let’s talk about you

The successful incumbent will have:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated project experience, including the ability to successfully lead projects and work as part of a team
  • A successful academic track record, including peer-reviewed publications, research impact and obtaining research scholarships, grants or related funding.
  • Proficiency in Python, Matlab, R or similar

The following experience would also be preferable:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Mathematical or economic modelling, Adolescent Health, Disease epidemiology, Health costing and economics, or Communicable diseases
  • Evidence of effective mentoring of junior staff and students
