The Opportunity

Are you an experienced project manager with expertise in research translation, commercialisation, and business development? Then this could be the role for you!

An exciting opportunity now exists for a Commercial Project Development Manager to join our Commercialisation Innovation and Industry Partnership (CIIP) team.

The primary purpose and vision of the CIIP team is to support researchers to innovate and translate their research for public benefit through Intellectual Property commercialisation and industry partnerships. CIIP team sits with the Strategic Funding and Partnerships Business Unit responsible for managing all the revenue generating activities of the institute.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Supporting key project and initiatives within the institute by providing commercial and strategic oversight
  • Supporting development of project plans and business cases
  • Exploring and managing strategic partnerships as well as seeking relevant advisory support to assist in product development
  • Leading opportunity assessment and business case development for new opportunities
  • Assisting with seeking funding through grants, partnerships and other mechanisms
  • Designing and maintaining a detailed project management plan to monitor project activity, milestones, resources, budget etc
  • Working closely with the scientific team to prioritise project activities and keep to project milestones
  • Working on the identification, evaluation and potential translation of particular ideas, research programs, capabilities and technologies
  • Assisting in the identification of commercial partners and representing Burnet opportunities to relevant external stakeholders

This is a full-time position, initially for a 2-year period with the possibility of extension. Ongoing working from home options and flexible working hours will also be provided!

 

Let’s talk about you

The following criteria are essential requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area
  • Knowledge and experience of technology transfer, commercialisation, business development within an academic environment
  • Professional skill and knowledge of research translation, commercialisation, and market research and business case development
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating commercial and legal arrangements for research translation
  • Demonstrated skills in building internal and external networks in relation to research translation and commercialisation of intellectual property
  • Demonstrated understanding of higher education and/or public sector research in relation to research translation and/or commercialisation
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure of various deadlines
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and document management skills including attention to detail
  • Ability to lead change with passion and commitment, setting an example for others and empowering staff

The following criteria is preferable but not essential:

  • Masters or PhD in relevant area
  • Diploma of Project Management
  • Knowledge and experience in commercialisation alliance and or operations management within Industry or start up environment
  • Strong understanding of the design and development of diagnostic assays
