National Risk & Safety Manager

About the Role: 

An exciting opportunity to join the National BIG W Safety team as the National Risk and Safety Manager.  In this role you will provide support to the National Safety Team to drive continuous ownership, improvement and empowerment of the State and Store teams to enable the effective delivery and improvement of safety and health projects.

This is an exciting role based in our Support Office at Bella Vista and is a permanent role.  It will require some state based travel to ensure you can support and coach leaders to ensure we continue to provide a safe environment for our team members.

The successful candidate will have  an excellent understanding of safety and health management systems, risk management and is an effective communicator with exceptional organisational skills.

In addition, the successful candidate will undertake the following tasks:

  • Maintaining visibility of Safety and Health performance including operational and organisational risks through delivery of reports to management and board
  • Establishment and progressive development of  project management disciplines related to key risk and safety activities to send our people home safe every day.
  • Partner with key culture and people, operational, loss prevention, supply chain and legal stakeholders to develop training to keep our people safe
  • Provide support and leadership to the Regional Safety Specialists, and the Support teams to drive continuous improvement in safety and health risk management practices.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure regulatory and legislative compliance
  • Partner with the SH&W team and Group Safety & Health to continuously review and improvee the BIG W Safety Management System.
  • Continuous improvement of   key safety processes including control monitoring, assurance activities and incident management

About You 

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following career experiences:

  • Qualifications in Diploma in WH&S (minimum) 
  • Previous experience managing and influencing external and internal stakeholders 
  • Leadership and coaching experience 
  • Working knowledge of legislation relevant to S&H compliance 
  • Experience in multi site operations is desirable 
  • General retail commercial awareness
