Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) was Australia’s first dedicated paediatric research facility and is now one of the world’s most highly regarded independent medical research centres. Our research focuses on the areas of embryonic development and birth defects, cancer, neuroscience and gene therapy and we have a strong international reputation based on our research outcomes. It is also home to the world-first proteomics project, ProCan, which is changing the way cancer is diagnosed and treated. Motivated postgraduates with a passion for biomedical research are invited to apply for a Research Officer position in the Cancer Research Unit. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team investigating cancer biology, telomeres, experimental therapeutics and cancer biomarkers. This position will specifically focus on the biology and treatment of sarcomas, requiring application of a variety of cellular and molecular biology techniques, such as RNA, DNA and protein analysis, flow cytometry, deep sequencing, pre-clinical drug efficacy studies, molecular assays for telomere maintenance and gene function analysis. The position reports to A/Prof Karen MacKenzie (Senior Research Fellow/Project Leader) and Professor Roger Reddel (Head of the Cancer Research Unit, Director CMRI) and is tenable for one (1) year, with possible extension contingent upon performance and the availability of funds. The position is based in Westmead and is available immediately.

Applicants should hold a B.Sc. (Hons) and postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of cancer biology or oncology, skills in cell culture and molecular biology as outlined in the position description, excellent attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
