The Australia & New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group (ANZBCTG) is Australia’s national research organisation dedicated to the design and conduct of national and international, multi-centre, breast cancer clinical trials. The ANZBCTG has been conducting its research program for more than 30 years, and this position offers an opportunity to join this leading research team as Chief Operating Officer for the Trials Coordination Department (TCD).

This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a highly-effective clinical trials program team and partner with the CEO and senior management team. This newly created position is part of a restructure and the successful candidate will be significant participant in the change implementation process.

 About the Role

  • Lead, develop and retain an efficient, operating team capable of responding dynamically to clinical trial opportunities.
  • Activate, maintain and evaluate new and existing research projects for operational clinical trials management.
  • Work with the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), Director of Research to implement operation support for the clinical trials program.
  • Critically evaluate the existing processes and operations, and develop and implement a comprehensive continuous improvement plan covering all aspects of the trial coordination department.
  • Oversee resource development initiatives, proposed operating plans, schedules and budgets to maximise progression of the TCD.
  • Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for staff to give feedback on clinical trials program planning and operations.

Key Challenges

  • Support and implement Board recommendations to restructure the TCD.
  • Manage and support staff through this significant change period.
  • Implement and improve efficiency of processes.

 About You

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience overall, plus a minimum of five years of senior leadership experience at an executive level (preferably with experience in a clinical trial environment).
  • Solid educational background including undergraduate degree in a relevant field and postgraduate qualification in business, management and/or project management.
  • Strong operational, management, implementation and interpersonal skills supervising seasoned staff operating multiple complex programs across a broad geography.
  • Capable of successfully designing and effecting organisational change within a dynamic research environment.
