Do you have a broad range of interests as expertise – from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to homelessness, to gender equity, to skill development in the social sector?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a capable and experienced individual to join our dynamic Community Capacity Building team as Community Capacity Building Officer. This position is responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders in a community capacity building framework to improve the level of connection, engagement, resourcefulness, trust, participation and skills in the community. This senior specialist role is generalist in nature and can having changing portfolios over time. Current work plans will be focused on:

  • convening Council’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee,
  • leading Council’s collaboration with the homelessness sector,
  • designing and delivering capacity building programs for the social sector in Parramatta and internally for Council staff,
  • representing Council in a number of networks and inter-agencies
  • contributing to the Community Capacity Building team’s actions under the Reconciliation Action Plan, Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Plan, Engagement of Young People Action Plan, Disability Inclusion Action Plan and other projects.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Tertiary qualification (degree or higher) in the social sciences or related field applicable to social planning or community development
  • Extensive experience working in the Not-For-Profit or Government Sector, in a senior strategic or management position, with an expert knowledge of the community sector and a capacity to partner with members of the sector in a proactive way.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in working with disadvantaged communities to achieve improved outcomes for all stakeholders. Knowledge and experience in homelessness is particularly sought.
  • Demonstrated experience and adept in often complex, group facilitation and conflict management processes to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Sophisiticated communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to write for multiple and diverse audiences and requirements.
  • Demonstrated success at establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
