Collaborate with leading researchers and statistically analyse complex data to determine solutions for two key public health priorities

About your environment

Cancer Council Victoria has been leading efforts against cancer since 1936 through world leading research, prevention, support and advocacy programs. The Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer conducts high quality applied behavioural research and evaluation to inform and influence cancer control policies, programs and services. The Centre has active programs of research underway in tobacco control, skin cancer prevention, obesity prevention, alcohol harm reduction, cancer screening and cancer care.

Building on our already established research methods, the IMPACT Study will analyse monthly population survey data over more than a decade from many tens of thousands of Australians to investigate the impact of public health policies, product marketing and mass media campaigns on smoking prevalence and consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. The study will examine policies that may reduce overall population use, as well as among specific age cohorts and socio-economic groups. In doing so, this internationally unique study will help guide government policy decisions on the most effective and equitable future tobacco control and obesity prevention efforts in Australia and other nations.
