Cancer Council Victoria (Cancer Council) is an independent charity that has been leading the fight against cancer since 1936 through research, prevention and support.

Cancer Council’s Prevention Division aims to reduce the risk of cancer in the Victorian population through social marketing, advocacy, professional training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence.

Tobacco in Australia: Facts and Issues, now in its 29th year, aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of tobacco control efforts in Australia by analysing and synthesising accurate, substantiated and timely information and evidence. The publication aims to assist all those working in public health to more quickly and easily produce the high quality text needed to explain the case for tobacco control and justify particular legislation, policies or programs.

About your opportunity

We are seeking a meticulous Research Assistant to join our team. Reporting to the Policy and Research Manager, you will:

  • Source relevant data through Pub Med and industry publications to maintain up- to-date, high quality reference libraries
  • Accurately code data, maintain databases, and assist with online updates and maintenance of the publication’s website

Further your skills in research with a highly respected publication, helping to ensure accurate and up-to-date information relevant to smoking and tobacco control is available for the students, academics, journalists, public health advocates and policy makers across Australia who regularly use the Facts and Issues website.

All about you

We are looking for someone with:

  • A four-year degree in psychology, public health or related discipline.
  • Experience with Endnote reference management program and on-line electronic databases/search platforms such as PubMed and PsycInfo
  • A high level of proficiency in multiple computer packages including Microsoft Office, and familiarity with web content management systems
  • High level attention to detail and exceptional organisation and time management skills

What we can offer you

This full time fixed term position until 30 June 2020, provides a salary within range $50,535 - $55,725 pa plus superannuation, annual leave loading and the benefits of not-for-profit salary packaging and a meal entertainment card. We also offer a flexible and friendly work environment, social and wellbeing activities and a location close to public transport.
