We are recruiting a dynamic and accomplished researcher specialising in the immunology of Dementia. This career-making position will see you accomplishing breakthroughs in major human diseases through undertaking and leading research that creatively contributes to preclinical Alzheimer’s research whilst providing a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and development of research aims within the Centre for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine, UTS.  

About the centre

The Centre for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine is a new, priority initiative of UTS, aiming to become a sustainable, world-leading hub of research excellence, working to achieve transformative outcomes for sufferers of neurological diseases and SCI through employing a novel, trans-disciplinary approach. Led by Professor Bryce Vissel, the Centre pursues research in the neuroscience of cognition, movement and related neurological diseases. The Centre is divided into various overlapping and complementary research streams, directed to high impact research related to understanding the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms involved.

About the role 

You will be expected to establish a new project with a unique research direction within the Centre for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine. Subject to performance and funding, this also provides the opportunity for you to build your own research sub-team over time. 

You will pursue leading-edge research into the underpinnings of dementia and possibly other neurological disorders, working with members of the Centre to create a body of work that is distinctive and of a quality expected from scientists with equivalent experience at leading institutes world-wide. The role requires you to balance tasks of producing high quality research with exploring and generating funding outcomes, providing vision and supervision of their research whilst managing ethics and grant applications.

The role requires close collaboration with the Centre Director, Professor Bryce Vissel and other senior team members as well as developing new techniques/models not already established in the group and subsequent teaching to other lab members as necessitated. You will therefore run studies as well as work closely and collaboratively within a high-performing group to build their research profile and expertise.

About you

A collaborative researcher, you will have undertaken PhD or equivalent studies in a related discipline and will have extensive post-doctoral experience specifically in immunology, with some neuroscience experience preferred. Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate a high level of experience in relevant methods and must be able to set these methods up in the laboratory for general use. High level of experience working with rodents is also highly desirable.  Similarly, you will be able to demonstrate a track record of scientific publications and successful applications for research funding of research with impact relevant to an appointment at this level.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $99,924 to $135,725 pa (Level B/C)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for up to four years.
