One in five Australians are affected by a brain disorder each year. The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health has more than 600 staff and students who are passionately committed to researching the way the brain works. We are internationally renowned for our discoveries and research on the central nervous system and associated brain disorders. Key areas of interest include addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, depression, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, stroke and traumatic and spinal cord injury.

An excellent opportunity is available for a highly motivated individual to join an outstanding team of scientists and staff, and work within the Digestive Physiology and Nutrition Laboratory at our Parkville facility. The primary responsibilities are in drug administration and behavioural assays in mouse models of Parkinson’s disease and in assays of physiological responses of the digestive tract at an organ and whole animal level. Assays include intestinal transport, intestinal motility, water and electrolyte transport, and motor co-ordination. This position will also require the monitoring and recording of animal health.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Honours or Masters in Physiology or related discipline. Previous experience with laboratory animal handling and monitoring is required to fulfil the requirements of this position. An indicative salary in the range of $67,157 - $74,420 commensurate with experience plus 14%/17% superannuation and generous salary packaging options.
