About us:
One in five Australians are affected by a brain disorder each year. The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health has more than 600 staff and students who are passionately committed to researching the way the brain works. We are internationally renowned for our discoveries and research on the central nervous system and associated brain disorders. Key areas of interest include addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, depression, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, stroke and traumatic and spinal cord injury.

About the role:
An excellent opportunity is available for a highly motivated in vivo pharmacologist to join the Ion Channels and Human Diseases lab. The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of scientists to work on behavioural and electrophysiology measurements in mouse models created to mimic genetic mutations associated with childhood epilepsies.

The candidate will work within and across disciplines in the Florey lab and with colleagues at Praxis (a start-up biotech company) to identify and validate novel targets, and to drive discovery research programs into early clinical development.

The purpose of this position is to support research into brain function of rodent models. This will include drug dosing, behavioural testing and small animal surgery.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor (Honours), Master or Doctoral Degree in physiology, neuroscience or related field
  • Experience in handling and drug administration in small animals and stereotaxic recovery surgery in mice or rats
  • Skills in data analysis, record keeping and data interpretation
  • Enthusiasm, passion and the ability to work in a team

The salary on offer is in the range of $64,929 - $82,086 commensurate with experience, plus generous superannuation and salary packaging options.
