If you're after a rewarding career, Monash University can help make it happen.  With leading academics and world-class resources, combined with a ranking in the top 100 universities worldwide, we offer all you need to build a brighter future.

The Opportunity

Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) facilitates interdisciplinary research partnerships that provide solutions to sustainable development challenges globally, providing a platform to share expertise in partnership with industry, government and the community.  One of the current programs of work is the Urban Slum Revitalisation project funded by the UK-based Wellcome Trust. The project involves researchers from MSDI and five faculties across Monash as well as Stanford and Emory Universities and the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities.  It is designed to undertake a water sensitive revitalisation of 24 urban slums across Indonesia and Fiji, building local capabilities in new water technologies and improving human and environmental health within these communities.

The Project Manager is a key position within this program, leading and managing the end-to-end scope of this multifaceted project, including researching and planning, stakeholder engagement, developing documentation and presentations, milestone reporting as well as post-implementation reviews.  In addition, you will lead a highly trained and motivated team, including staff based in-country, to underpin and deliver on the goals of the project, ensuring key project deliverables are met, project requirements resourced effectively, and budget considerations are managed.  Risk identification and mitigation, legislative and process compliance, and change management responsibilities will add further diversity to this focus.

As the successful candidate you will have prior experience working in an Asia-Pacific context, ideally liaising with governments, businesses and communities in Indonesia or Fiji.  You will have demonstrated your capability to successfully manage large, complex, multifaceted projects from implementation through to completion, establishing priorities, delivering on planned outcomes and managing resources and teams efficiently.  Experience or knowledge of urban water management and/or public health research is also highly desirable. Your exceptional interpersonal and communications skills will enable you to interact, influence and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders whilst your superior analytical, evaluation and research skills will ensure you can assimilate new concepts and deliver creative solutions for this vital project.

This is an ideal opportunity to drive real, substantial change and make a significant positive impact to these local communities.  If you believe you can fulfil these requirements, you are strongly encouraged to apply.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated. Travel to overseas project sites will be required.
