Moira Shire Council is located on the majestic Murray River just 2.5 hours’ drive from Melbourne and close to the other regional centres of Shepparton, Wangaratta, Echuca-Moama and Albury-Wodonga. An opportunity has arisen for an accomplished community and strategic planner to join Council in the newly created role of Team Leader Community and Recreational Development.

Reporting to the Manager Community Development this challenging role will take responsibility for the day to day operational management and strategic leadership of the Community and Recreational Development team. You will build strategic and social networks, support community groups and clubs in their strategic planning processes and encourage the development of active communities including sport and recreation facilities across the Shire.

The successful candidate is an autonomous, self-starter with demonstrated skills in strategic and community planning, ideally with experience in recreation and leisure. An accomplished manager and highly engaging leader and negotiator you have sound budgetary and financial management skills, excellent report writing capabilities and experience in identifying external funding opportunities. Above all else you have a genuine commitment to working with the communities within the Shire to foster capacity building and resilience with the aim of promoting health and wellbeing, recreation/sports participation, inclusiveness and the provision of quality facilities and services. Tertiary qualifications in Recreation, Leisure, Community Development, Strategic/Community Planning or equivalent are preferred.
