Indigenous Postdoctoral Researcher - [Archived Advertisement]

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians live with an unacceptably high burden of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD). The End Rheumatic Heart Disease Centre of Research Excellence (END RHD CRE) commenced in 2014, and aims to develop an endgame strategy for rheumatic heart disease control in Australia. The END RHD CRE was established to unify various RHD-related research activities, to build networks and capacity in the field, with a singular vision to produce the Endgame Report and Strategy for ending RHD as a public health priority in Australia.

The END RHD CRE is seeking a talented and suitably qualified Indigenous researcher or clinician who wishes to develop and lead a program of research relating to the field of ARF and RHD. Across the CRE partner network, a range of projects and themes of work focus on the RHD epidemiology, bioscience through vaccine development, reformulation of penicillin, improved screening and diagnostic tools, economic modelling, environmental determinants of RHD, health services research, qualitative research understanding the lived experience of RHD, evidence translation, health policy, and advocacy.

The CRE partners include Australia's leading ARF/RHD research teams, based at Telethon Kids Institute, Menzies School of Health Research, The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute, University of Western Australia, Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, and Murdoch Children's Research Institute, providing the ideal candidate with access to the best research environments and infrastructure to grow and develop a program of research The ideal candidate could be based at any of these locations or across a number of these locations depending on their interests, mentoring and supervisory requirements, research priorities and needs.

The candidate would be supported by a mentoring program involving our CRE Indigenous investigator team.

A suitable professional development plan, research support costs along with an attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate.

The CRE's Postdoctoral Researcher forms part of the CRE's commitment to building capacity and developing capabilities for Indigenous students and researchers. Persuant of Section 50 (d) and 51 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

This is a fixed term position for 2 years, full time with the flexibility of working part time.
