About this role
Challenging role in a fast paced dynamic environment, where you will lead a team and provide high quality financial statements, technical accounting advice, and accounting services for the NSW Ministry of Health. 

Where you'll be working
The role sits within the Budget Management and Accounting Unit (BMAU) in the Financial Services and Asset Management (FSAM) Division of the Ministry of Health. You will have interaction with other teams within the FSAM Division and thus have a unique opportunity to engage with other finance professionals both internal and external to the Ministry.

What you'll be doing

The Principal Financial Analyst Leading the Financial Control Team is responsible for the preparation of financial statements for the Ministry of Health Parent entity, and providing a range of financial accounting services for the Ministry in line with accounting requirements and standards, and consistent with Ministry directives and Treasury requirements. The position will also provide high level technical accounting advice and formulate policies to ensure compliance in the Ministry of Health Parent entity.  

To be successful in this role, you will

  • Possess a CPA or CA qualification
  • Have an understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, and public sector accounting requirements
  • Have extensive skills and experience in financial accounting and analysis within a large and complex organisation
  •  Be able to lead a team in providing clear and accurate financial reporting for management and other stakeholders.

TARGETED QUESTIONS

1) Describe your experience in leading a team in the preparation of statutory financial statements within a tight timeframe? In doing so, please describe a situation where you have been responsible for determining the correct accounting treatment for a complex accounting issue. 

2) Describe a recent situation where you had to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to tackle a difficult financial accounting problem. In doing so please describe how you resolved any disagreements between stakeholders to reach a cohesive outcome.
