The Role
The positions of Regional Mental Health Manager (RMHM) and Regional Mental Health Promotion Coordinator (MHPC) are important parts of the national network of professionals working in mental health for Defence.

The RMHMs and MHPCs are responsible for coordinating the planning, delivery and monitoring of Joint Health Command managed mental health programs and initiatives in their region. Both roles deliver evidence based and evidence informed mental health promotion programs and initiatives to Defence members and the health workforce.

These positions require regular travel to Defence bases in the region in order to develop strong relationships with ADF units and to deliver promotion, prevention and early intervention initiatives that meet the needs of the members in that region.

Regional Mental Health Manager:

The RMHM leads the small regional team and is responsible for the development and implementation of a Regional Mental Health Promotion Plan in line with the Defence Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy. The RMHM acts as an advisor and consultant for mental health programs in their region.

The RMHM is responsible for the application of policy, governance and assurance systems to support quality outcomes in their region in relation to mental health programs and initiatives.

Regional Mental Health Promotion Coordination:

The MHPC is expected to form and develop strong relationships that will assist in the promotion of mental health initiatives. The MHPC is also responsible for the administrative aspects of program coordination in their region in relation to mental health programs and initiatives.

We are currently recruiting for these positions in the following regions:

  • RMHM – Western Australia (based in Perth)
  • MHPC – Western Australia (based in Perth)
  • RMHM – Northern Territory (based in Darwin)
  • MHPC – Northern Territory (based in Darwin)

As part of Joint Health Command, the Australian Defence Force Centre for Mental Health (ADFCMH) is a national asset which provides leadership, best practice and innovation in military mental health. The ADFCMH’s mission is to enhance Defence capability through engagement, consultancy and an evidence-based, best practice approach to mental health and wellbeing initiatives.

The ADFCMH hub is located in Sydney with regional teams located across Australia. These positions are located in Perth, WA and Darwin, NT. Together the ADFCMH team develops and delivers a robust set of mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention programs; provides consultancy services; delivers training and up-skilling programs for the ADF mental health workforce; and implements a range of mental health promotion initiatives.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ADFCMH is looking for experienced Mental Health professionals who have the knowledge and experience of working across the Mental Health Continuum.

The successful candidates will be adept at developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships at all levels, and be able to navigate a complex health and organisational system. This will require strong systems thinking approach and an ability to engage stakeholders across a geographical region.
