The Role
Two excellent ongoing opportunities exist for experienced rehabilitation consultants to work as an APS 6 Rehabilitation Case Manager (RCM) overseeing occupational rehabilitation service delivery in the Darwin region to Australian Defence Force members. You will lead a team of contracted rehabilitation consultants who are responsible for day to day delivery of occupational rehabilitation services to ADF members who are injured or ill. You will work with a multidisciplinary health team consisting of medical officers, mental health professionals and other specialist and allied health providers in ensuring development and delivery of a coordinated occupational rehabilitation plan.

RCMs are responsible for ensuring that overarching Defence policy is applied as well as exercising delegations under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act and the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence Related Claims) Act as necessary. A key aspect of this role is liaison with ADF member’s Commanding Officers as well as other internal and external stakeholders/organisations, to ensure that member’s occupational rehabilitation goals are well aligned, achievable, and on-track.

These positions report to the Health Centre Manager day to day and the Regional Rehabilitation Manager for technical guidance, and is accountable for occupational rehabilitation services delivered to members in their region. These positions is also part of the broader Rehabilitation Case Management team across Joint Health Unit Central Australia and the country which provides a rich network of support in the individual’s health professional network as well as in the specialised area of occupational rehabilitation.

Note: These positions are declared to be in a remote location and you may be eligible for additional allowances such as: District Allowance; Assisted leave fares allowance; Additional annual leave and/or Relocations assistance.

There are currently two ongoing positions available and we will be creating a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing that may become available over the next 12 months.

About our Team
The ADF Rehabilitation team strongly contributes as part of the Defence healthcare team in maintaining capability as an organisation across the three services (Army, Navy and Air Force), and working to achieve Defences mission and policy requirements.

Working collaboratively yet autonomously within a team of Rehabilitation Case Managers across both Northern Territory and South Australia, the successful candidate will be responsible for the governance of the work completed by contracted Rehabilitation Consultants and adherence to relevant policies and legislations to uphold national consistency in service delivery.

The ADF Rehabilitation team is a unique model of operating that fosters collaboration and subject matter expert support, training and mentoring being provided to the Rehabilitation Consultants working alongside at the Defence health facilities.

Our Ideal Candidate
The RCM will have experience in the injury management environment with knowledge and experience working in a biopsychosocial model of practice. They will demonstrate strong technical skills and knowledge in complex rehabilitation case management. They will be accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

They will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. The RCM will have excellent communication and negotiation skills and develop productive relationships across stakeholders both internal and external to Defence. They will anticipate, identify, and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

The RCM will have experience in leading, mentoring and coaching a team to develop less experienced team members. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.
