The Role

The main role of the MO3 Medical Advisor is to work as part of a small specialist team reviewing and interpreting clinical information to provide written occupational medical advice on ADF member employability and deployability to the ADF career management agencies in accordance with extant ADF health policy.

The MO3 Medical Advisor may also be required to provide specialist clinical advice to and liaise with other Defence and non-Defence stakeholders, including (but not limited to) individual ADF members (serving and ex-serving), commanders, ADF health staff, single service career management agencies, Defence Ombudsman, Defence Force Recruiting, Department of Veterans Affairs and the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation. They may also be required to respond to freedom of information and ministerial requests.

The MO3 Medical Advisor is accountable under broad direction to assess and interpret complex to very complex medical information to provide clinical advice within an integrated workforce. They require experience and comprehensive knowledge of the medical field and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that field. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement
and professional development.

NB: The current position is ongoing however we will be creating a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 12 months.

About our Team
Joint Health Command (JHC) provides health care to ADF members and ensures the health preparedness of ADF personnel for operations. To effect this, JHC develops strategic health policy, provides strategic level health advice and exercises technical control of ADF health units.

The Military Employment Classification and Review Service (MECARS) team operates within JHC and acts as the interface between the health services and the three services' Military Employment Classification Review Boards (MECRBs) providing clinical advice in support of personnel management decisions on the employability and deployability of ADF members.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the MO3 Medical Advisor is a medical practitioner with considerable experience in general practice or occupational medicine and clinical advisory roles. They will have highly developed communication skills to facilitate collection of information and provision of timely and accurate advice to relevant stakeholders.

The MO3 Medical Advisor will work collaboratively within a small motivated team, provide guidance to others as required and will be accountable for the outcomes of the team’s work and the appropriate use of resources to produce and achieve these outcomes.

The MO3 Medical Advisor will hold a current unrestricted registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and be accountable to contribute to quality assurance and continuous professional development activities to ensure currency within the medical field.
