The Role
Join a team of health professionals providing high quality health care to members of the Australian Defence Force. An APS6 Health Practice Manager is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex administrative work to support the delivery of health care services within an integrated workforce. They require a well developed understanding of relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

An APS6 Health Practice Manager will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will interpret and provide advice within the allied health function area based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessment, investigations and perform procedural, clerical, administrative support work to achieve results.

The APS6 Health Practice Manager will coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. They may be a team coach or supervise a team and be accountable to set work priorities, allocate work, and manage workflows and performance. They are expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit.

The APS6 Health Practice Manager will be required to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

About our Team
Joint Health Unit - North Queensland (JHU- NQ) is an exciting work environment, with opportunity to provide innovation to enable delivery of military medicine and joint healthcare services to the Australian Defence Force.

Within JHU-NQ, Lavarack Health Centre currently provides garrison health services, to a combined dependency of multiple ADF units permanently based within North Queensland with an annual regional dependency of approximately 7,000 personnel.

Lavarack Health Centre (LHC) is a multiple disciplinary health centre located at Lavarack Barracks. LHC provides Primary Health Care, GP Services, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Pharmaceutical, Mental Health, Dental and Rehabilitation Management services. Additionally LHC has a 24 hour in patient facility to support the Townsville region. The team is a blend of Australian Defence Force (ADF) Australian Public Service (APS) and contracted personnel working together to provide these health care services.

This is a dynamic role that will draw on strong skills in the Microsoft office suite, a range of software platforms used to manage workforce rosters, reporting, budget allocations, work health and safety (WHS), contractual requirements as well as health policy and governance. The successful candidate will require strong verbal and written communication skills and will be leading the team of staff to promote a positive experience the team and customers alike whilst maintaining key relationships outside the facility.

Our ideal candidate will be a confident health practice manager with positive verbal/written communication skills and the ability to engage at all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders.

You must be able work autonomously as well as part of a team, prioritise workload when faced with competing demands and comply with procedures, policy, legislation and regulatory frameworks.
You must demonstrate the ability to independently get the most out of clinicians and support staff to achieve key deliverables in regards to the health care delivery for members of the Australian Defence Force.

You will effectively and efficiently manage resources in areas of workforce, equipment and stores, facility maintenance and finance.

The successful candidate will embody the highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.
The successful candidate will bring their strong background in clinical leadership past experience to lead, provide coaching and on-the-job training for newer and less experienced team members.
