The Role

An excellent ongoing opportunity exists for experienced rehabilitation consultants to work as an APS 6 Rehabilitation Case Manager (RCM) overseeing occupational rehabilitation service delivery in the Townsville region to Australian Defence Force members.  

You will lead a team of contracted rehabilitation consultants who are responsible for day to day delivery of occupational rehabilitation services to ADF members who are injured or ill. You will work with a multidisciplinary health team consisting of medical officers, mental health professionals and other specialist and allied health providers in ensuring development and delivery of a coordinated occupational rehabilitation plan. 

RCMs are responsible for ensuring that overarching Defence policy is applied as well as exercising delegations under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act and the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence Related Claims) Act as necessary. A key aspect of this role is liaison with ADF member’s Commanding Officers as well as other internal and external stakeholders/organisations, to ensure that member’s occupational rehabilitation goals are well aligned, achievable, and on-track. 

This position is part of the broader Rehabilitation Case Management team across NQLD and the country which provides a rich network of support in the individual’s health professional network as well as in the specialised area of occupational rehabilitation.

Note: The current position is ongoing, however we will be creating a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 18 months.

About our Team
Joint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the delivery of military medicine and joint healthcare services to over 70,000 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.

JHC is also responsible for the health preparedness of ADF personnel for operations, and the coordination of health units for deployment in support of operations.

Joint Health Unit - North Queensland (JHU- NQ) is an exciting work environment, with opportunity to provide innovation to enable delivery of military medicine and joint healthcare services to the Australian Defence Force. 

Lavarack Health Centre (LHC) is a multiple disciplinary health centre located at Lavarack Barracks. LHC provides Primary Health Care, GP Services, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Pharmaceutical, Mental Health, Dental and Rehabilitation Management services. Additionally LHC has a 24-hour in-patient facility to support the Townsville region. The team is a blend of Australian Defence Force (ADF) Australian Public Service (APS) and contracted personnel working together to provide these health care services.

The APS 6 Rehabilitation Case Manager position reports to the Health Centre Manager day to day and the Regional Rehabilitation Manager for technical guidance and is accountable for occupational rehabilitation services delivered to members in their region.

The RCM will have experience in the injury management environment with knowledge and experience working in a biopsychosocial model of practice.
