About the Role
In this role you will be working in the Healthy Communities team and will have a specific focus on outcomes that achieve social equity and inclusion for communities and population groups currently experiencing inequity and disadvantage which impacts on their access to social, civic and economic participation; as well as self-determination and a voice to influence decisions that affect them and their communities.

You will be responsible for facilitating and developing policies as well as delivering strategies or projects that focus on social equity, diversity and inclusion with particular focus on multicultural communities.  The outcomes will build on individual and community strengths, giving priority to early intervention and prevention activities which augment collaborative partnerships, joined-up services and whole of government(s) solutions based on evidence informed responses that lead to sustainability through the application of social justice and community development principles.

This is a temporary full-time position for 12 months.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and facilitating mechanisms and processes that ensure across-Council coordination in analysis, planning and activities to achieve social equity at a strategic and policy level, as well as at community and neighbourhood levels.
  • Facilitating and developing policies and strategies that focus on achieving social equity for priority populations and/or address complex social issues that impact on people’s access to social, economic and civic participation.
  • Consulting with the community to ensure that existing Council priorities and projects meet the needs and aspirations of the community.
  • Providing ongoing advice and support to the development and implementation of a range of polices and strategies to achieve social equity and inclusion within and external to the organisation. 
  • Identifying and developing the resources and collateral to engage and foster community participation and education in relevant actions in the implementation various Council strategies.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in the Social or Health Sciences, Community Development or a related field, which focus on community development, health promotion or substantial relevant experience in a similar field.
  • Current employee Working with Children check.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully facilitating, developing and delivering policies, strategies and projects that increase social equity and inclusion.
  • Highly developed conceptual skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills required to engage and provide information to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience and success working with communities experiencing complex social and economic issues.
