Gundagai Meat Processors (GMP) is a dynamic meat processing business owned and operated by our family, the Bartons. We are a high quality, competitive cost processor, situated halfway between Sydney and Melbourne on the Hume Highway, and in a prime lamb growing region.
GMP has long been committed to the region and its people, innovation, and the industry, the business has recently completed an exciting $32M expansion project that will deliver an increase in annual capacity, export certification, increased automation and prosperity for its staff and the region.
Key Duties include however not limited to:
- Develop, implement and maintain systems designed to proactive manage and prevent workplace injury and illness including, hazard identification, risk assessment, control, monitor and review, induction and specific OH&s training, accident and near miss investigations and reports
- Conduct and complete high standard of accident and incident investigations in a timely manner
- Oversee, integrate and report on Safety issues in operations work i.e. auditing, testing, corrective action processes, projects to deliver sustainable results across time
- Assist in the provisions of site Rehabilitation for injured workers by promoting an efficient return to work program
- Coordinate onsite physio with arranging booking times and PTA’s
- Co-ordinate, administer and provide advisory and directional support to the safety committee
- Promote, support and co-operate with all GMP workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Ensure the health and safety of all workers engaged, influenced or directed while at work in the business
- Establish a culture where work is done safely and effectively including the development of methodologies that support effective cross functional work and continuous improvement of performance
- Maintain and update safety boards with relevant information i.e. Safety committee minutes, Safety Reps, Return to work coordinator etc
- Present and report accurate and timely historical safety information and analysis
- Monitor and report daily attendance
- Analysis employee’s absenteeism and provide trends to HR Manager
- Assist in the induction process and onboarding process
- Manage record keeping
- Advise of effective communication material to promote health and wellbeing, engagement and updates

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously with a high attention to detail
- Confident, enthusiastic, articulate and approachable
- Ability to work under pressure and in a changing environment
- A clear track record of success in a similar role
- A passionate 'can do' attitude, flexibility and the ability to effect and embrace change
- Current drivers’ licence is essential
